Fun fact: the Surat Factory building shown above was a real place. There are drawings of it from the era when it was the sole outpost of the East India Company. In fact, it survived right up until the early twentieth century, well past the date that it was still an important location, only to be torn down in living memory.

I mean it was never a very attractive building, and India has many other buildings with far more historical significance, even in the narrow category of East India Company buildings, but its final destruction sure made the research for this story more challenging.
