Roger seems to have hands, forward facing eyes, legs, joints, a mouth, and ears in the same general configuration as a human. (or a rubber forehead star trek alien) in addition to a human name and no trouble with our language or our air.
Ah- now- being “part human-” that really WOULD make him a Star Trek alien. No, despite his startlingly humanoid appearance, something which I can only attribute to how embarrassingly long ago I came up with his character, he is not part human. It would be easier for a human and a butterfly to interbreed. We share more DNA with insects than with Venusians.
He did, however, grow up on Earth surrounded by humans. At least if what he says at the start of chapter three is to be believed. His language, his mannerisms, his facial expressions, these are all learned behaviours he’s picked up from his surroundings.
In fact the next two pages are dedicated to expanding some of Roger’s back story. Cue flash back sequence in five… four… three…
