Hey! This is Sharon; I sat across from you at VCon. Hallo! Finally got around to bookmarking your site. Yeah, yeah, I know I fail at life. Deal; that’s what I do. 😛
Anyhoo, how’s things?
Hi Sharon! Things’re okay. I’m busy as usual, and for once I actually have some money in the bank. Really you didn’t miss much on the site- Mad Tea-Party didn’t update at all between VCon and about a month ago.
I tried to give your comic a read. I’ve been pretty impressed by the Sage Comics collective, but to be honest, this one is proving to be a bit of a disappointment. I’m one of those readers who needs both good writing and at least decent artwork, so I couldn’t really get into the story of this comic. So, I can’t critique the story.
But the art….. It’s pretty bad. It doesn’t look like you’re trying to mimic anime, which is one bonus, plus your backgrounds aren’t terrible. But the anatomy desperately needs work. It’s just hideous. Bodies are incredibly stiff, the faces are smooshed and all somehow have the same facial features. The strange thing is, your oldest pages are far more attractive than your most recent ones. I don’t know what happened, but maybe you should learn how to use whatever medium you’re currently using first, or at least get people’s input about it before you ruin your comic pages with it. I think the toning/shading (whatever you use for it, it look digital though) works as some kind of magnifier for your terribly ugly drawing…. Can’t call it style, since it’s just amateur work. Well that’s being a bit generous I think. Like I said it’s pretty bad. This is the way fourteen year old kids draw. But that’s okay, there’s plenty of room for growth, yeah? As long as you’re capable of taking critiques.
Anyway, keep it up, I guess. Just…work on the anatomy.
Well Phoebe it sure is lucky for you that there are so many other better comics to read in the Sage Comics Collective, then isn’t it? It sure is lucky you’re not forced to read every one. I recommend Kaspall. Or Two Rooks, that one’s pretty good. Imagine how many pages of Flaky Pastry you could have read in the time it took you to write these three paragraphs, and all without my horrible art clogging up your browser window.
I don’t know how slow you are at typing, but I’m pretty quick. It didn’t really take me that long, if you wanted to know. Anyway, you seem offended. I guess I can’t blame you, I haven’t been sugar coating or patting your ass like I’m sure a few other people have (though I can’t imagine why, since it doesn’t do you, or any other artist any good). But at least you were good enough to publish my comment.
Anyway, there’s no reason to be mad. Sure I thought all of the other comics in the Sage Collective were much better than yours (Two Rooks, Khaos, Two Keys and Red Dog are my favorite), but if I didn’t think you couldn’t improve and have your comic be up to par, I wouldn’t have bothered to comment or browse through it. I’ll be sure to read it and see if the story is good. It has to be, right?
Two Keys is good, isn’t it? Wait until you see the other project she’s working on. Say, Phoebe, I know another comic you’d probably like. It’s about a cat who’s like a communist or something from Russia. Let me see if I can find it.
To be honest I liked Honeydew better, and to be even more frank, she could benefit from adding a bit more detail in her art. But yeah, it’s pretty good. =)
I’m not a big fan of furry-related things, but sure, I’ll give it a read.
Boy you’re having a really hard time staying in character. Well I’m bored now. Future comments from you will be deleted as trolling. Feel free to recount this entire conversation on your blog. I consider it a matter of public record. Merry Christmas!
The comics on this website range in rating from all ages to teen. Content warnings include some occasional mild language and some innuendo, and some not-very-graphic violence.
