A Mad Tea-Party 223
There won’t be a chance to go into this unless I can manage to ret-con it in as an edit for the final graphic novel, but basically none of the original Genie had a childhood. Earth needed soldiers fast, and couldn’t wait to raise them from scratch. Instead they made the Genie as adults, and implanted them with false memories of a childhood to give them a semblance of humanity. Given the incredible complexity of creating a brain with 20 years of false memories, it’s likely the government saved some money by giving them all exactly the same (or at least very similar) memories. Add that to the list of things that make Zeus and his generation stand apart from every other person on Earth (including the alien persons and his own wife and children).
“A Genie will have Genie babies.” Sorry little girl, you get one point for logical thinking, but minus severl hundred for misapplied 9-th grade Biology. The human genome is so complex and recursive that there’s almost no way to predict what the result of natural breeding will be. The only thing that makes COnnie a Genie is her in utero enhancements (which I bet a couple of those rich kids in ugly hats received). Matilda is as normal as any other human (QED).
Now there’s an interesting thought. Given that the military has had the technology to genetically engineer cost-effective soldiers for at least 20 years, and that gen’gineered pets are commonplace, even assuming the apparent huge social stigma against gen’gineered humans, what would stop parents from “tweaking” their kids just a little and hoping no one would notice? Hmmmmmmm.
Well, they wouldn’t want any of that “inbreeding” to show~
