One thing I definitely didn’t want to do with this story was kill off any of my main characters. At least not on camera. That seems to be the knee-jerk reaction when most people set out to take superheroes “seriously.” This is, I hope, a much more surprising and emotionally evocative fate. Tragedy can come in many forms.
