It may not be clear from the brief chance you have to see it, but the president is holding a segment of bamboo that the letter was delivered in. This was apparently the usual method of mail delivery in Mughal India. When you think about it, it’s a pretty good way of keeping your mail safe from damage. Maybe Canada Post should consider adopting the idea.
Some time having passed, the Dodo’s storeroom is now filled with coffee beans instead of cloth. Indian Ocean trade routes are not the method coffee took to first arrive in Europe, nor is this coffee headed there. Like I said, most of the business the East India Company engaged in was transporting goods between ports Europeans did not (yet) control.
In researching this comic I looked up who the president of the company was in 1619, but I’ve already forgotten his name and there are no pictures of him. He left light footprints on recorded history.
